Covered

  • All components and parts of a hard-wired home electrical system, unless otherwise listed
  • Built-in exhaust/attic/whole house fans
  • No system is too old to be covered
  • Members don't need a maintenance record for repairs to be covered

Not Covered

  • Audio/video/computer/intercom/alarm or security wiring or cable
  • Telephone wiring
  • Face plates
  • Circuit overload
  • Inadequate wiring capacity
  • Power failure or surge
  • Direct Current (D.C.) wiring or components and/or low voltage systems including wiring and relays
  • Central vacuum
  • Smoke detectors
  • Entertainment systems
  • Lighting fixtures and light bulbs

Yes, all three American Home Shield home warranty plans, ShieldSilver™ShieldGold™, and ShieldPlatinum™, include coverage for interior electrical lines.  

We cover all components and parts of interior electrical wiring, including D.C. (direct current) wiring. However, please note that we do not cover audio, video, computer, telephone, intercom, alarm, and security wiring or cable. Our standard home warranty contract term is 1 year and can be renewed upon expiration. There is a 30-day waiting period before you can make service requests when you purchase a new home warranty plan.

If we can’t fix it, we’ll replace it and cover the cost to remove the defective item, subject to your plan’s limitations and exclusions. 

Once your coverage begins (30 days after you purchase your new home warranty plan) you can request service 24/7 online or call 1-888-691-2854 during standard business hours to request service.
