Interior Plumbing Lines Warranty Coverage

Your interior plumbing lines are an integral part of your home and a system you rely on every day. Malfunctions can cause significant stress, not to mention major costs, and most plumbing line repairs require an expert. Having the right coverage can make it a lot easier to keep things up and running. Rather than panicking when you discover a covered problem, you can simply call American Home Shield.

Interior plumbing lines are covered in our ShieldSilver, ShieldGold and ShieldPlatinum plans along with other Home Systems and Appliances. *There is no limit on covered system components.

*American Home Shield will cover up to $1,000 should the contractor need to cut through concrete to access any system components.

Covered

  • Clearing sink, bathtub, shower, and toilet stoppages
  • Clearing mainline drain and sewer stoppages through an accessible cleanout up to 100 feet from an access point
  • Clearing lateral drain line stoppages up to 100 feet from an access point including accessible cleanout, p-trap or overflow access points
  • Water, drain, gas, waste or vent line leaks and breaks
  • Valves for shower, tub and diverter
  • Angle stops
  • Risers and gate valves (we use similar finishes and styles when we replacement is necessary)
  • Basket strainers
  • Permanently installed sump pumps (ground water only)
  • Pressure regulators
  • Sewage ejector pump (limit of $500) (Septic system sewage ejector pumps are not covered unless you purchase certain optional coverage)
  • No system is too old to be covered
  • Members don't need a maintenance record for repairs to be covered

Not Covered

  • Stoppages caused by collapsed, damaged or broken drain, vent or sewer lines outside your home’s main foundation
  • When your lines are broken, infiltrated or stopped by roots or foreign objects – even if they're within your home’s main foundation
  • Caulking or grouting
  • Septic tanks
  • Water filtration/purification system
  • Holding or storage tanks
  • Saunas or steam rooms
  • Costs needed to locate or access cleanouts that can't be found or are inaccessible, or to install cleanouts
  • Access through roof vents

Yes, all three of our home warranty plans, ShieldSilver™ShieldGold™, and ShieldPlatinum™, include coverage for interior plumbing lines.  

We cover leaks and breaks of water, drain gas, waste, and vent lines,  as well as drain line and sewer stoppages. We will also provide access to plumbing lines through unobstructed walls, ceiling or floors, and will return access opening to a rough finish.   Please note that if the plumbing is accessible only through a concrete floor, wall, or ceiling, American Home Shield will pay up to $1,000 per contract term, including returning access openings to a rough finish.  See the specific Interior Plumbing Lines coverage details page above for more information 

Our standard home warranty contract term is 1 year and can be renewed upon expiration. There is a 30-day waiting period before you can make service requests when you purchase a new home warranty plan. 

If we can’t fix it, we’ll replace it and cover the cost to remove the defective item, subject to your plan’s limitations and exclusions. 

Yes, we cover clearing of mainline drain stoppages through an accessible cleanout up to 100 ft from access point. However, we do not cover costs to locate/access cleanouts that are not found/inaccessible or install cleanouts.See sample contract for details.  

No, we are not responsible for any secondary incidental or consequential damage  that results from a covered plumbing malfunction, including a service contractor’s delay to provide service. See sample contract for details.
